Here is an excerpt from an email I received from Barish who went to the hospital with Melisa and her father:
The check-up with Melisa went very well. We took her to the American Hospital to the Children's Clinic where the head of the unit, a pediatrician and oncologist saw her. She is really one of the best doctors in Istanbul in her field. Her father brought all of the previous records and MR Scans related to Melisa's condition and the Doctor had a careful look at them. She knew immediately what her condition was, and how her brain tumor was related to the spots and blemishes on her skin. She said it was a benign tumor but in a very difficult area to operate on, and that it did have the potential to become malignant if I am not mistaken.
What she recommended was that Metin have Melisa see three other specialist doctors at a research hospital in downtown Istanbul. She personally recommended and phoned up these experts in the field to refer Melisa to them. Basically there is a new non-invasive injection technique that she is recommending to reduce whatever is causing the tumor to grow. She wants to get these other doctor's opinions as well on what to do, and they know about this technique. The goal is to prevent the tumor from getting any bigger and if possible reduce it. An operation is not currently on the table. Metin and Melisa need to now see these other doctors for more tests and check-ups in the next few weeks.
The good thing is that the doctor we went to is connected with the best institutions in the city and knew all the doctors who had seen Melisa before. So it was excellent that we went to see her.
Please keep Melisa in your thoughts and prayers. To me this seems hopeful. This new procedure would be less invasive. That has to be a good thing.

About Me
- Troye
- Hello All! Thanks for visiting the website. Boy howdy I am working hard on my quilts. Each one is different and tells a little something about me. Sometimes I just go random but there is always something special about each one. I'm pretty cool, at least I think so, I laugh a lot and I laugh loudly. I'm delighted you're looking at this website and considering supporting us. Thanks for passing through Miss Troye! Andy will join us and tell you about himself. he loves cooking, tennis, his music and anything Redskins. He will tell you more about himself later.
What has been happening up to now
Well a lot has been happening. At long last I received the batting I ordered from Tennessee!! I laughed when I saw how big the package was. Cyrus is holding it in one of the photos so you can see what I am talking about. It looks like a fat carpet. The funny thing is four friends in different parts of the world helped me get it here. This will be yet another story I can tell my grand daughters when they are older..
In fact I have had so much support from friends and family I can no longer say I am doing this on my own. Thanks to Barish who set up this blog spot, , my mother in law gave generously out of her stash of African fabrics which she collects on her travels throughout Tanzania and Sierra Leone. The lovely Katherine helped update and edit my pictures and is also a gold mine of insight and input she offers her opinion without buffers sometimes I don't know where she got that personality trait from, honestly. Andy is just a rock and supports most everything I do (LOL). I have been very encouraged by friends and associates who have just called or stopped me to ask how it is going, which is so helpful to me. There have been many offers of assistance. Someone even offered to come and sit and keep me company while I sewed.
I have been dying fabric, altering denim and all sorts of lovely things like that. I went to London last week for a training course but while I was there I could not resist a quick pit stop into Liberty's (beautiful leafy red fabric). I called into a haberdasher's in Northwood Hills where I buy my calico. I raced there after my course finished to make it before closing time at one on Saturday. Thankfully my bags were not lost at terminal 5 at Heathrow.
Any way I am well on my way and I hope together we really can help Melisa. Sometimes when I feel like giving up I just think of her and I am supplied with the energy and the will to carry on.
Thanks for stopping

I am still at it. My middle finger on the right hand is permanently sore and swollen these last few weeks. Who knew?? It is all for a great cause and I don't have any regrets. Andy may do but I don't.
The kids leave this weekend for various destinations and while I think I might be glad of a quiet house I will miss them dreadfully. I am glad they have exciting new adventures to experience, but in the deepest places in my heart I want them to stay with me. But then i know they are not mine to keep so off they go.
I will have more sewing time I hope so watch this space
Have great day today what ever you do where ever you go
